Spring/Summer '17 accessory trends - what will you adorn yourself with this summer?

Okay, it is only January, but a bit of summer daydreaming is just the ticket to get us through these grey winter months.

So, in eager anticipation of those lovely warm days where we'll be able to put away our scarves and gloves and show off our new trinkets, we decided to take a look at the Spring/Summer 2017 fashion shows to see what's going to be hot in accessories this year, and here's our round up of what you might want to adorn yourself with this summer.

BAGS

The catwalks were awash with a myriad of shapes, colours and sizes when it came to bags, but our favourite trend has to be the mini bag. It’s set to be this summer’s It bag. If you’re the sort of person that likes to carry everything, including the kitchen sink, in your handbag, we hereby challenge you to try this one out! It has to be barely big enough to contain your phone, front door key and maybe a lipstick, or if you're really brave, big enough for nothing but your credit card. Valentino, Christian Dior, Chanel, Armani and DSquared (to name but a few) all showcased petite pouches to make you drool. If you want to shop for this trend on the high street, here are some key design elements to look out for:

  • small

  • box shaped

  • flap front

  • drawstring

  • metal hardware

(not all in the same bag obviously!)

If you absolutely have to carry the kitchen sink, you can’t go wrong with a big bag in white, pastel hues or with bold geometric patterns, or alternatively a structured bag in a vibrant colour. Check out Elle's brilliant round up of SS ’17 bag trends here.

JEWELLERY

As with bags, there was a lot to choose from on the catwalk. It’s that diversity that makes jewellery so wonderful, but the best thing about it is that it offers a fabulously purse friendly way to keep up with trends.

We spotted plenty of classic opulent jewellery, modern geometric shapes and, interestingly, a lot of enamel. Again, Elle picked out the best of the best from New York Fashion Week to perfection, which you can see here, but here are some of our favourite trends:

Long Statement Necklace

The Sautoir, or long statement necklace is set to take centre stage this summer. Not everyone likes statement jewellery but, if like us you adore these bold beauties, you’ll probably already own a few. The best thing about a sautoir is that it is a timeless piece of jewellery and can be worn for years with just about everything in your wardrobe.

Minerals

Mineral stones have been used to make jewellery for centuries, so it was great to see these semi-precious gems make such a big appearance on the SS'17 catwalks. They were seen in every form, from rings to necklaces. Not only do mineral stones evoke a sense of laid back sundrenched glamour, they are also reported to have therapeutic qualities, which can only be a bonus, right?

Art Deco

The grand sophistication of the art deco era makes this style one of our favourites and a lot of the designers used it for inspiration in their collections for the summer. Grab yourselves some bold bejewelled art deco inspired earrings and necklaces and jazz up a plain outfit.

Faux

Faux jewellery is trend that never goes out of fashion. If you want to ooze glamour, you can't go wrong with a sparking crystal statement necklace or fake stone earrings, and luckily for us, most high street shops carry great faux jewellery that often looks more expensive than its price tag.

Rebel Rebel

Studs and spikes are a firm favourite, and although the summer's rebel look was slightly softer with ethnic and tribal influences, you’ll still look like a bad girl!

Geometric

If you're a fan of graphic or minimalist jewellery, you'll be pleased to know that this trend is sticking around. Big geometric shaped earrings are the way to go. And if you're feeling adventurous, only pull one earring out of your jewellery box and rock the single earring look, or mix and match shapes and sizes.

Chokers

We love love love chokers so it was great to see this look carried across to the summer - long may it live! You can wear your choker thick or thin, in fabric or in metal, plain or dangling with trinkets, it doesn't matter, they all look gorgeous.

So, we hope you find our little guide useful, and do visit Indigo Shore's shop because we'll ensure that we have all of these trends covered, and more, to help you wear whatever style you want.
